There are tons of sites out there that promise to give you work from home ideas – for a fee. While I’m sure some of them are legitimate, there are so many work at home jobs for free, I don’t think that paying for information is necessary. One of the best options out there is becoming a medical transcriptionist.
Once you get the basics down, the job is easy. You’ll receive copies of doctor’s notes on their files. You’ll then go into their online system and enter the information. Typically there will be special codes for each procedure that is done. When you’re first starting, it can feel like there are so many codes you’ll never be able to remember them all. However, you’ll soon realize that there are few codes you’ll use a lot and the rest will simply only be used occasionally. You’ll always have your books to look back on should you need them for reference.
There is usually no start up cost involved in working as a medical transcriptionist. There will be guidebooks that you’ll need, but most companies will be willing to take the cost for these out of your first check. The great thing about this type of job is that you can usually work as much or as little as you want. We all have weeks where we have a little extra free time and you can use those weeks to earn extra money. Then on the weeks when you’re more strapped for time, you can do only as much work as you have time for.
